A core part of what I do as an artist revolves around the idea of playful experimentation. I am of the firm belief that naivety is an essential component to making interesting work. I have often found that those with a lack of skill (myself included) have to come up with more innovative ways to create and solve problems. As such, I am also deeply interested in unlearning skills that I do have; I do this typically by imposing (often arbitrary) rules on a project and seeing what happens as a result. I find this exciting not only because it’s an interesting way to reach solutions to problems, but also because it allows room for genuinely unpredictable outcomes. As a rule, if I make something that surprises me, I’m on the right track.
